Stone House Pottery & Gallery
A native of Galesburg, Illinois, Charles Fach received his masters of art degree from the University of Iowa and came to Galena in 1971. He and his wife Sandy purchased the City Brewery and over the years have lovingly and carefully restored the property breathing new life and purpose into its buildings.
Charles is an accomplished artist—a talented potter, painter, sculptor and metalworker.
The City Brewery building is home to Stone House Pottery and Gallery—a space for Charles to display and sell his work. The Fach’s have transformed the icehouse next door into Abe’s Spring Street Guest House. Charles’ work is featured throughout from one-of-a-kind ceramic tiles to custom metalwork including bed frames, light fixtures and doorknobs. Charles’ touches are everywhere; guests even dine on dishes he created.
Eventually, Charles needed a larger studio space and work began on the Artists’ Annex, an impressive, three-story, multi-use facility situated on the primary ferment and grain storage area. During the week, Charles creates and teaches in the space and on the weekends conducts free pottery demonstrations where visitors can witness the art of throwing, trimming and hand-building pottery.
