Jim Terry
While working at Café Provencal in Evanston, Illinois, Jim Terry began developing a taste for wine. He soon found that he had a special sense for describing the differences between wine types and making food pairings.
Captivated by his new interest, Jim attended courses and seminars at the Chicago Wine School. Exposing his palate to a variety of wines from around the world, Jim’s enthusiasm for wine grew.
Moving to Galena in 1992, Jim opened Eldorado, a restaurant serving southwest-influenced cuisine. After eight years, the restaurant closed and Jim headed back to Chicago. He worked as Wine Educator and Assistant Wine Director for Sam’s Wines & Spirits. Called back to Galena four years later, he joined the Captain Merry Guest House in East Dubuque, Illinois, as its executive chef.
In June 2006, Jim earned his certification from the Court of Master Sommeliers. He is now involved with the wine program at Van’s Liquors in East Dubuque where he teaches wine seminar and leads tastings.
He has built several Wine Spectator Award of Excellence winning wine lists and wine cellars. Jim is also the Executive Chef of the Beacon Award winning Mediacom television program ‘Kids in the Kitchen’.
