Galena River Wine & Cheese
Ken and Sandy Winge first visited Galena in 1977 and fell in love with the town and its people. A few years later they decided to take a leap of faith and move their family from Chicago to Galena. Once in Galena, they had to decide how to provide for their family and they soon settled on running a cheese shop. The decision felt like a natural fit because they had enjoyed entertaining with wine and cheese for years.
Housed in the Peck Building, one of Galena's oldest commercial buildings, Galena River Wine & Cheese offers more than 120 varieties of cheese including many locally-made favorites, a number of extra-aged cheddars from across the U.S., and an impressive selection of imported cheeses primarily from France, Italy, England, Switzerland and Scandinavia. They stock more than 130 premium beers including unusual micro-brewery beers and the finest beers from abroad. Their wine selection includes over 170 wines from highly-regarded vineyards located around the world.
